Shadowhunter Costume: Part 2 and 3, Stele and Seraph Blade and Angel Weapons

Hi again!
So I've decided to combine the Stele and Weapons tutorial into one!

Let's start with the stele!
I made one out of polymer clay but it didn't turn out like I thought, it was not long and thin enough. So I'll be showing the second, wood stele.

I started with a rosewood stick I found dried in my back yard. I cut it to a length I liked then peeled off the bark with a swiss army knife.
Before carving

After

Then I cut the tip into a point, trying to make it like a pencil.

I forgot to take pictures while painting it but it's really up to you, every stele is different. I sanded it smooth then used acrylics to paint it silver, with lighter silver spiraling it. Then I drew the angelic power rune along it. I wasn't really sure what runes you put on something that draws runes so I just went with that. Feel free to put what ever runes you want.

Here is the best picture of my stele I have, I really like it!
Share pictures of yours!

Now on to weapons!

I got the basic plastic ninja weapon set at a costume store.
I wanted to make a blade like the book, long glowing tube that ends in a point. The movie one was ok similar to the ninja sword so I went with it. Also the daggers were a great bonus!

For these I just got to work with a sharpie! Again I just used the angelic power rune, which is one of my favorites. Then on the daggers I doodled a little more.

Taa Daa! The final results I'm pretty happy with. If you want it to glow I tried to spray paint mine with glow in the dark spray paint, but it smeared the ink and peeled off, so I wouldn't suggest it.

Strap them into your weapons belt and you're ready to go demon hunting!

I'll post pictures of my costumes next week!
Cheers- M

Shadowhunter Costume: Part one - Clothes

Hello everyone!
Now NaNo is over, I WON, by the way! My birthday is coming up and I am having a book themed party where people will dress us as there favorite book characters. I am going to be Clary from Mortal Instruments since she's my favorite and I have the red hair. I was also Clary for Halloween and loved it!
Unfortunately, there aren't any really good Shadowhunter costume tutorials on the internet so I am going to share how I figured it out for other people! In the books Clary ins't quite a full fledged Shadowhunter yet so I'm being sorta of future Clary, with weapons and Marks! Later this week I'll post a stele and seraph blade tutorial!
The first step to any good Shadowhunter is Gear and the most important thing to remember is:
"Shadowhunters: Looking Better in Black Than the Widows of our Enemies Since 1234"
Gear should be protective, but also kind of sexy and tough, not to mention skin tight! I have a skirt for my party because I'm going for the Magnus party look but skinny jeans are also great! Leather boots are a must! In fact, the more leather, the better.

For make-up I'm adding red lipstick for the badass look. Smokey eye would also be appropriate!
As for accessories, I have a military utility belt and motorcycle gloves I got off Amazon that are really cool! If you wanted to be Isabelle, you could wrap a bracelet around you like her whip too!
There are really a million ways this costume could go, so be creative!
I'll try and have the weapons tutorial up later!
Keep being awesome Nephilim!

NaNoWriMo Update!

Last week here we go! Just hit 30,500 words!!! No school this week so I’m buckling down for the final stretch! See you December 1st! <3 M

Oreo ‘Truffles’ A.K.A. bite-sized heartache cures

Image
I’ve seen this idea floating around pintrest and last night I finally decided to try it!
Things have been crazy with school, boys, people and I was just sick of it all and craving something chocolate. So when I saw this from www.the-girl-who-ate-everything.com I rushed to the store to get the ingredients. Grocery stores 10 minutes before closing are rather strange. The 20-something cashier upon seeing the cream cheese, oreos, and bacon(for the morning) said it “sounded like his kind of Saturday night.” So, I got the ingredients and made them with my sister V. They’re not quite truffles just because they were so easy! Only 3 ingredients to deliciousness and forgetting all about life’s problems.
Oreo ‘Truffles’
Ingredients:
1 8-oz package cream cheese (I used reduced fat)
1 regular package of Oreos or oreo like cookie
1 bag Milk chocolate chips for dipping

1. Add all the oreos to your food processor and process until completely crumbled.
2. Add package of cream cheese and process until you have a big ball like so:

3. Now take bits of the mixture and roll them into bite-sized balls. Place the balls on a cookie sheet.

4. Put the balls in the freezer for 45-60 minutes. Make sure you do this or many ‘saggy balls’ jokes will ensue, trust me, I know.
5. Now it’s time to melt your chocolate. I melted the chips in the microwave but you could do a double broiler instead. The microwave is just quicker.
6. Dip the cold balls in the chocolate!

7. Let the chocolate harden in the fridge then enjoy!

Delicious!
Warning: do not consume more than 2 at one time or you may explode
